We held town hall-style events, visited projects, and met schools during the journey. Our events sought to combine local government, businesses, civil society and students. Local voices told their stories, and participants got the opportunity to discuss climate change with others across these 4 constituencies.

Journeys2COP26

Join walk2cop26, after their 510 mile walk to Glasgow, to hear from all those who have made their journeys to COP26, and why. Groups talking through their stories include faith groups, groups from Spain, Sweden, those arriving on foot, bicycle, and by water.

Confirmed speakers include the Walk2COP26 team, YCCN Relay, Pilgrimage for Nature, Push Krishnamurthy, Marcha a Glasgow from Spain, Pilgrim's Walk for Future from Sweden, Carbon Battle Bus, Not1More and others.

As we get closer to Glasgow, we are still reaching out to other adventurous groups to join and inspire us, so if you or know anyone else who is, please do reach out to the Walk2COP26 team!

Climate Justice with Walk2COP26

Come and join us at the Strathclyde University Union to discuss Climate Justice.

Walk2COP26, at the completion of their 510 mile walk from London, will host policy makers and politicians, those from business, civil society and students to debate this pivotal topic.

Speakers include Jamie Cooke - Head of RSA Scotland, Nicole Griffiths - Green Party councillor, Fr Arbo Lekule - Catholic Archdiocese of Southwark and Livesimply representative, Laura Bannister - Campaign Director of World Basic Income, Kumi Naidoo - Global Ambassador, African Rising for Justice, Peace and Dignity; Global Leadership Council, Sanitation and Water for All; Richard von Weizsäcker Fellow at the Robert Bosch Academy.

The event will include plenty of interaction both with the speakers and with other members of the audience.

Clyde Wind Farm

Visit to SSE’s Clyde Wind Farm and Operations Centre, one of Europe’s biggest operational wind farms. Clyde Windfarm (Scotland) Ltd is a joint venture partnership between SSE, Greencoat UK Wind Plc and GLIL Corporate Holdings Ltd.

Located south of Biggar in the Southern Uplands, it has 206 turbines with an installed capacity 522MW. Clyde wind farm generates enough renewable energy to power over 290,000 homes.

Clyde wind farm has a community investment fund valued up to £58 million.

MyecoMoffat alongside Moffat District and Community Council and SSE will be hosting Walk2COP26 by bringing together the key stakeholders in Moffat from Businesses to key community figures and service providers to have a conversation and raise awareness about climate change. Some will be joining the walkers the next morning as they head towards Glasgow.

The Langholm Initiative & Crichton Carbon Centre

We will meet with the Langholm Initiative on the new community owned Tarras Valley Nature Reserve. Here we will hear about one of Scotland’s most successful community land buyouts, learn the story behind their success and what comes next for them as they undertake one of the largest ecological restoration projects in Southern Scotland. Alongside them, the Crichton Carbon Centre will talk about the peatland restoration works going on in the Reserve and across Dumfries and Galloway, and their importance in tackling climate change.

Marketing Lancashire, Lancashire and Lancaster Councils, Morecambe Council, and local business have established a working group to develop a day’s culture and climate festival around our afternoon event. Grace Kitchen

Grace Kitchen, Fountains Church acquires food from wholesalers, local shops, and supermarkets that would otherwise go to waste. This food is then sorted, re-packaged, or cooked and found an appropriate home.

Grace Kitchen has been set up to tackle food waste, a major source of carbon emissions, and a travesty with an estimated 2m malnourished people in the UK.

We will be hosted by Duncan Milswain, Social Enterprise director at Fountains Church.
